Choosing a career for oneself is not an easy task. If the person is wrong in judging his strengths and weaknesses, it is possible that he would not be able to flourish in the different careers that he chose for himself. There are certain steps that can help one to properly evaluate oneself regarding which career best suits him:
There are external sources like psychometric tests, aptitude tests, one to one sessions, etc that can help one in understanding the best suited careers for himself from the list of careers available.
But before this, one should be capable enough to short list his interest fields and his aims in life. Without this even the above given measures cannot help him beyond a limit.
If one is focussed regarding which field he wants to develop his career in, then he must be able to identify his strengths and weaknesses related to the field. Later he should try to overcome the weaknesses by preparing a personal action plan, commonly known as PAP. He can also apply SMART goals technique in which ‘S’ stands for Specific, ‘M’ stands for Measurable, ‘A’ stands for Achievable, ‘R’ stands for Realistic and ‘T’ stands for the Time in which one aims to achieve his career goals.
